Katie + Steven | An Intimate Wedding Day Focused on What Truly Matters

Wedding Portraits at Pleasant hill mansion

Some weddings are built around trends and details.

Katie and Steven’s wedding day focused on something much simpler and honestly, much more meaningful: their relationship and the people they love most.

With around 100 of their closest friends and family gathered together, every part of the day felt intentional, personal, and deeply connected. Nothing about the day felt overdone. The details were minimal, allowing the focus to stay exactly where it belonged, on the moments they were experiencing together.

The morning started at The Governors Club before everyone made their way to Holy Family Catholic Church for a full Catholic mass ceremony.

A Ceremony Centered Around Meaning

There’s something incredibly timeless about a full mass ceremony.

Katie and Steven’s ceremony felt calm, reverent, and emotional in a way that naturally pulled everyone into the moment with them. Instead of feeling rushed from one part of the day to the next, the ceremony created space for everyone to slow down and truly take in what was happening.

One of my favorite parts of the day happened immediately after the ceremony.

Instead of saving the big exit for the end of the reception, Katie and Steven chose to do a grand exit right outside the church surrounded by all of their friends and family. It felt celebratory in such a genuine way and honestly set the tone for the rest of the night perfectly.

Portraits That Felt Natural

When we arrived back at Pleasant Hill Mansion, we only spent about 8 to 10 minutes taking portraits before they joined the cocktail hour and the reception.

And honestly, that’s all they needed.

Rather than pulling them away for a long portrait session, I guided them through candid moments that allowed them to simply be together. They talked, laughed, embraced each other, and stayed fully present instead of feeling like they were stepping away to perform for the camera.

Later in the evening, after dinner and speeches, we snuck back outside for a few drone shots in front of the mansion. The energy had shifted at that point in the best way. The nerves were gone, the celebration was fully underway, and they were just soaking in the fact that they had finally gotten married.

The Speeches, The Dancing, and a Packed Dance Floor

The reception was the perfect balance of emotional and wildly fun.

The speeches throughout dinner were filled with stories about Katie and Steven and why they fit together so perfectly. You could tell how much the people around them genuinely admire their relationship, not just as a couple, but as individuals too.

Then came their first dance, and it completely changed the energy in the room.

From that point on, the dance floor stayed packed.

Katie and Steven absolutely tore up the dance floor alongside all of their guests, and the energy never really dropped for the rest of the night. One of my favorite moments was watching Steven pull his grandma onto the dance floor to celebrate with everyone else. Moments like that are always the ones people remember years later.

A Wedding Day That Prioritized Presence

What stood out most about Katie and Steven’s wedding day was how present they were through every part of it.

They weren’t worried about creating a production or filling the day with endless details. They focused on the experience itself, being surrounded by their favorite people, celebrating their marriage, and fully living in the moments as they happened.

And honestly, those are usually the weddings people remember forever.
